VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach squandered the chance to go second in the Bundesliga and close the gap on leaders Borussia Dortmund after a 1-0 defeat at 1. FC Nürnberg.
In a game of few chances, Albert Bunjaku came off the bench to settle matters with three minutes remaining. It was the Switzerland striker's opening goal of the season and condemned Mönchengladbach to their first defeat of 2012. Lucien Favre's side remain third, eight points behind Dortmund with a vastly inferior goal difference, while Nürnberg climbed to ninth.
Elsewhere, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim made it five Bundesliga games unbeaten with a 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln. Defender Marvin Compper looked sure to have sealed all three points for the hosts, before Lukas Podolski snatched a late equaliser for Köln nine minutes from time.
