AS Roma moved back into the top six in Serie A after securing a slender win against US Città di Palermo in the only match in the Italian top flight.
Having lost three of their last four league encounters, including the Rome derby last weekend, the Giallorossi were desperate for a change in fortunes. The visitors got off to the perfect start thanks to an early goal by Italian international Fabio Borini and a string of saves from Bogdan Lobont.
The 20-year-old former Chelsea FC striker, who made his debut for Italy against the United States last month, scored for the fourth consecutive domestic match after latching on to Eric Lamela's clever pass and producing a calm, third-minute finish.
The Rosanero showed a vast improvement in the second half but could find no way past Lobont, in for the suspended Maarten Stekelenburg, who saved well from Fabrizio Miccoli and Ezequiel Muñoz late on. The win takes Roma a point above FC Internazionale Milano and within five of SSC Napoli and Udinese Calcio, in fourth and fifth place respectively.
