VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach remain on course to secure fourth place in the Bundesliga despite being held at SV Werder Bremen, on a day when VfB Stuttgart won away to FC Augsburg.
Bremen were leading through Markus Rosenberg (18) but were reduced to ten men when Sebastian Boenisch saw red nine minutes later. Mike Hanke scored twice after the break to put the visitors ahead but Brazilian defender Naldo headed Bremen's equaliser in the 74th minute.
Stuttgart trimmed Gladbach's lead to seven points with four matches to play by coming from behind to defeat Augsburg, who took the lead through Nando Rafael's fifth-minute penalty. Serdar Tasci (24), Martin Harník (34) and Vedad Ibišević (84) replied to edge Stuttgart four points clear of Bremen.
Elsewhere, 1. FC Köln and Hertha BSC Berlin remain in the relegation zone after respectively losing 4-0 at 1. FSV Mainz 05 and 2-1 at home to SC Freiburg.
There are five more fixtures on Wednesday, including the leaders Borussia Dortmund taking on second-placed FC Bayern München in the match of the season.
