In the wake of their 5-4 defeat at FC Internazionale Milano on Sunday, Genoa CFC have parted company with coach Pasquale Marino and replaced him with the man he succeeded in the post, Alberto Malesani.
Marino, 49, had been in charge since Malesani was sacked following the 6-1 defeat by SSC Napoli on 22 December. Under the former Calcio Catania coach, Genoa picked up 13 points from 14 games and now lie fifth from bottom with 34 points, just six above the relegation zone.
The appointment of Malesani, who will start his second spell with the Grifone at Novara Calcio on Saturday, represents the 17th coaching change in Italy's top flight this term, including two that occurred before the start of the campaign ‒ a record for a Serie A season.
