City make most of United slip to close on top

Steven Pienaar's 85th-minute equaliser has left the race for the Premier League title wide open, as Everton FC battled back from two goals down to earn a 4-4 draw at Manchester United FC. Manchester City FC are now just three points off the summit after a 2-0 win at relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers FC.

Although Everton made life difficult for United for long periods, they seemed destined for defeat when trailing 4-2 with seven minutes left. Nikica Jelavić's 33rd-minute opener put the Toffees in front, but Sir Alex Ferguson's side struck back with a header from former Everton striker Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck's curling effort and a third from Nani.

Marouane Fellaini gave the visitors renewed hope on 67 minutes, before Rooney registered shortly afterwards to rack up his 180th goal for United and become the fourth highest scorer in the club's history. He looked to have given his side the points too, but Jelavić then completed his own double before Pienaar equalised from close range to earn a share of the spoils.

Goals from Sergio Aguero and Samir Nasri earned City a 2-0 win at Wolves, a result that relegated Terry Connor's side and moved Roberto Mancini's men to within sight of United ahead of their meeting on Monday week. Meanwhile, ex-Liverpool FC boss Roy Hodgson haunted his former club, as West Bromwich Albion FC won at Anfield for the first time in 45 years courtesy of a Peter Odemwingie strike with 15 minutes left.
