André-Pierre Gignac's second goal of the season was the difference as Olympique de Marseille maintained their 100% record at defending champions Montpellier Hérault SC, while Paris Saint-Germain FC were held once again.
The former Toulouse FC forward scored the only goal of the game on 77 minutes to give OM a third consecutive win and leave last season's table toppers with just one point to their name after three games. Meanwhile, big-spending PSG are still awaiting a first Ligue 1 victory of the campaign after FC Girondins de Bordeaux held out for a 0-0 draw in the French capital. For the Rouge et Bleu, it was a second match in succession without goals, following last week's trip to AC Ajaccio.
Elsewhere, AS Saint-Étienne got their first points of the season in impressive style, defeating Stade Brestois 29 4-0 as efforts from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang bookended a counterattacking performance. Romain Hamouma and Joshua Guilavogui added the others either side of the interval.
