Club Atlético de Madrid and Levante UD showed no ill effects from their UEFA Europa League exploits in midweek as both clubs recorded wins on Sunday, although Athletic Club could only manage a draw.

Atlético managed an impressive 3-0 win at Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC on Thursday, and they carried that form into their game with Real Valladolid CF as Diego Godín opened the scoring just after the half-hour. Falcao then smashed in a penalty on the stroke of half-time, and although Alberto Bueno pulled one back for the visitors after the interval, the undefeated Rojiblancos made it a third straight home league win.

In contrast, Levante were slow out of the blocks at home to Real Sociedad de Fútbol, who went ahead through David Zurutuza before José Barkero's 70th-minute penalty and Obafemi Martins' debut goal with four minutes remaining turned the match around.

Athletic Club are Spain's third UEFA Europa League representatives, but they were unable to break down UEFA Champions League hopefuls Málaga CF, as the two played out a scoreless draw at San Mamés. RCD Mallorca, meanwhile, moved up to second in the table as goals either side of the interval from Victor Casadesus and Javier Arizmendi saw off Valencia CF.

Lastly, Rayo Vallecano de Madrid's home meeting with Real Madrid CF was postponed due to floodlighting problems.
