Arsenal leave it late to win on Wilshere return

Arsenal FC needed a late strike from Mikel Arteta to overcome ten-man Queens Park Rangers FC at home.

On a day when Jack Wilshere and Bacary Sagna made their long-awaited comebacks from injuries that had sidelined them since June 2011 and May 2012 respectively, the Spanish midfielder was the match winner in the London derby.

QPR successfully stifled their hosts for much of the encounter, but, after Stéphane Mbia was dismissed for violent conduct with ten minutes remaining, Arteta poked in at a goalmouth scramble to prevent the Gunners' scoreless drought extending to a third game in all competitions.

In the late fixture, a lone Carlos Tévez strike was all that separated Manchester City FC and Swansea City AFC, whose goalkeeper, Michel Vorm, was hurt in trying to save the Argentinian international's shot. City right-back Micah Richards then became the second player to leave the field on a stretcher after sustaining what appeared to be a serious knee injury.

Elsewhere, a last-gasp Hal Robson-Kanu goal meant that Reading FC and Fulham FC shared the spoils in a six-goal thriller, while Wigan Athletic FC got their second win of the season at the expense of West Ham United FC. Stoke City FC drew 0-0 with Sunderland AFC.
