Vedad Ibišević scored Sunday's only goal in the Bundesliga as VfB Stuttgart ended Hamburger SV's four-game unbeaten run with a 1-0 away win.
With only one league triumph under their belts before today, Stuttgart began as underdogs against a resurgent HSV side boasting ten points from the last available 12 – including a 3-2 victory against champions Borussia Dortmund. However, Ibišević turned in Martin Harnik's cross from close range in the 30th minute and the hosts were unable to conjure a riposte, with Milan Badelj's effort against the crossbar the closest they came.
In the day's other match, 1. FC Nürnberg and FC Augsburg played out a goalless draw in their Bavarian derby. The result ended Nürnberg's run of four straight losses, but they could have been celebrating a first home win of the season had Hanno Balitsch not been twice denied by Mohammed Amsif. Sebastian Polter also missed with a late headed chance for 15th-placed Nürnberg, who lie one spot above their opponents.
