Montpellier Hérault SC's stuttering domestic form continued as they lost for the fourth time in Ligue 1 this season, succumbing 3-2 at home to a Saber Khelifa-inspired Évian Thonon Gaillard FC.
René Girard's team were on course for their first home win of the campaign at half-time after Marco Estrada's inswinging free-kick and a header from Souleymane Camara, whose late equaliser in midweek earned the southern club a UEFA Champions League draw at FC Schalke 04, overturned Khelifa's opener.
However, the Tunisia forward equalised with a fine curling effort from the edge of the penalty area just after the hour and, with a minute remaining, surged past Daniel Congré to complete a memorable hat-trick.
LOSC Lille, meanwhile, moved above Montpellier into mid-table courtesy of their first league victory since 11 August, Nolan Roux and Ryan Mendes scoring in a 2-0 triumph over visitors AC Ajaccio. Valenciennes FC, who ended Olympique de Marseille's 100% record last weekend, were denied three points at Toulouse FC by Adrien Regattin's 90th-minute equaliser.
Elsewhere, Stade Rennais FC prevailed 1-0 at third-bottom FC Sochaux-Montbéliard and Stade de Reims Champagne and SC Bastia recorded late wins against OGC Nice and nine-man ES Troyes Aube Champagne respectively. Marseille host Paris Saint-Germain FC in the pick of Sunday's three matches.
