Olympique de Marseille were unable to regain top spot in Ligue 1 as they suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat at ES Troyes Aube Champagne.
A draw would have taken Marseille back to the head of the pack after Paris Saint-Germain FC's one-goal victory against Stade de Reims Champagne put the capital club top on goal difference on Saturday. However, Benjamin Nivet turned in after a corner was not cleared in the 88th minute to secure a first win of the season for Troyes, who thus lifted themselves off the foot of the table. The result leaves Elie Baup's OM winless in their last three league outings – after they kicked off by triumphing in each of their first six.
Olympique Lyonnais remain in touch at the top courtesy of Bafétimbi Gomis, who scored the only goal of the game in the 57th minute to secure victory against Stade Brestois 29. Brest goalkeeper Alexis Thebaux denied Alexandre Lacazette and Lisandro, while Jimmy Briand struck the crossbar, but Gomis' lobbed finish ultimately broke a run of three games without a win for Lyon, who lie a point off the summit.
Earlier on Sunday, AC Ajaccio and SC Bastia played out a 0-0 draw in the Corsican derby. Adrian Mutu hit the post for hosts Ajaccio, while Johan Cavalli and Bastia's Gaël Angoula were both shown red cards late on.
