RCD Espanyol were denied their first win of the season at the seventh time of asking as a late Óscar González goal earned a draw for Real Valladolid CF.
Having picked up just one point from their opening six games, and despite having Víctor Álvarez (45) sent off in the first half, Espanyol looked set to spring an upset when Joan Verdú (71) put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot. However, Valladolid, who put six past Rayo Vallecano de Madrid in the same stadium last Sunday, earned a share of the spoils through González (81).
Vallecano themselves returned to winning ways having lost their last three, first-half goals from Piti and José Carlos Fernández Vázquez earning them a 2-1 home triumph against RC Deportivo La Coruña.
Getafe CF secured a second consecutive 1-0 win, this time against nine-man Real Zaragoza. Diego Castro's second-half penalty proved the difference against the hosts, who had Ndri Romaric (9) and Álvaro (62) dismissed. Abdelaziz Barrada saw red for Getafe late on. In the late game, Real Betis Balompié overcame Real Sociedad de Fútbol 2-0.
