FC Bayern München responded to defeat by Bayer 04 Leverkusen last week with a 3-0 success against Hamburger SV, a victory that extends their lead at the top of the Bundesliga to seven points.

With the three teams behind Bayern – FC Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Dortmund – failing to win this weekend, what was already a good day for Jupp Heynckes' team got even better when Bastian Schweinsteiger headed in Thomas Müller's cross on 39 minutes. Müller, despite the acute angle, doubled the visitors' lead in the 48th minute from Franck Ribéry's cute ball, while Toni Kroos put the gloss on their eighth win in nine league outings soon after.

Schalke could have applied some pressure to Bayern but instead lost 3-2 at TSG Hoffenheim, for whom Sven Schipplock struck an added-time winner. Dortmund drew 0-0 at home with VfB Stuttgart and have now triumphed in just one of their last four league games.

Hannover 96 are up to sixth after a 2-0 defeat of strugglers FC Augsburg, while 1. FC Nürnberg prevailed for the first time since 15 September, 1-0 against VfL Wolfsburg. On Friday, Eintracht were held 1-1 by SpVgg Greuther Fürth.
