Anatoliy Tymoshchuk's first Bundesliga goal in two years helped FC Bayern München to a 2-0 triumph at SC Freiburg and a ten-point lead at the top of the table.

Jupp Heynckes's team took full advantage of Borussia Dortmund, FC Schalke 04 and Eintracht Frankfurt all failing to win on Tuesday. Thomas Müller's 12th-minute penalty, awarded for a handball against Oliver Sorg, set the Bavarians en route to their sixth away league victory of the campaign, a strike which was added to late on by Tymoshchuk, whose previous top-flight goal came on 27 November 2010.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen are now Bayern's nearest challengers after they climbed three places into second following a 4-1 success at SV Werder Bremen, a result inspired by a double from Gonzalo Castro.

Elsewhere, VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach moved into the top half courtesy of a 2-0 home win against VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FC Nürnberg got the better of lowly TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Vedad Ibišević landed the decisive blow as VfB Stuttgart defeated bottom-placed FC Augsburg 2-1.
