Holders Olympique Lyonnais are out of the Coupe de France after suffering a shock loss to third-tier SAS Épinal on penalties in the round of 64, and it took an extra-time winner for Olympique de Marseille to see off Ligue 2 side EA Guingamp 2-1.

Tristan Boubaya put Lyon on the back foot with an early double, before Bafétimbi Gomis and Gueïda Fofana pulled the joint Ligue 1 leaders level. Lisandro – who struck the decider against US Quevilly in last season's final – then fired Rémi Garde's men ahead from the spot shortly after the hour following a Valentin Focki handball, but it was Focki who levelled the scores with 15 minutes to go. With no goals in extra time, minnows Épinal completed their upset as Fofana and Sidy Koné missed their spot kicks in the shoot-out.

Marseille avoided a similar fate thanks to André-Pierre Gignac's extra-time effort – his second of the match – against Guingamp, while OGC Nice required 120 minutes to down third-flight FC Metz 3-2 and Stade Brestois 29 edged fourth-division Vendée Luçon Football on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate. As for Paris Saint-Germain FC, they prevailed 4-3 away against valiant fifth-tier hopefuls Arras Football, Ezequiel Lavezzi registering twice for the capital giants.

Ligue 1 high-fliers Stade Rennais FC were not so fortunate as they lost 2-1 at Ligue 2 outfit RC Lens, and top-flight SC Bastia lost 2-0 to city neighbours CA Bastia of the third division. Elsewhere, FC Girondins de Bordeaux fought back from 2-1 down to overcome Ligue 2 LB Châteauroux 3-2, Brazilian defender Mariano making the difference in added time.
