Manchester United FC extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points with a 2-1 victory at home to Southampton FC.

The Red Devils had to come from behind to take advantage of Manchester City FC's goalless draw at Queens Park Rangers FC on Tuesday. Jay Rodriguez's third-minute opener put the Saints ahead, but Wayne Rooney came to the rescue, firing in from Shinji Kagawa's pass then tapping in the winner after 27 minutes following Patrice Evra's headed assist.

Chelsea FC are 13 points behind the leaders in third spot after goals in the 87th and 95th minutes from substitute Adam Le Fondre earned hosts Reading FC a 2-2 draw and lifted the Royals out of the bottom three. Fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur FC and Arsenal FC, in sixth, could not make up ground, however, as they recovered from one and two goals down respectively to draw 1-1 away to Norwich City FC and 2-2 at home to Liverpool FC.

Everton FC, therefore, moved within a point of the top four as Leighton Baines scored both their efforts in a 2-1 home success against West Bromwich Albion FC. Finally, Fulham FC climbed above opponents West Ham United FC into 12th with a 3-1 triumph at Craven Cottage.
