Former Czech international striker Milan Baroš has signed on at FC Baník Ostrava, 11 years after leaving the club.
The 31-year-old has penned a contract that runs until 30 June 2013, just five days after leaving Galatasaray AŞ. "I spent my entire youth at Baník. I have a tremendous relationship with the club and it's where my heart belongs," said Baroš, who played 93 times for his country, before bowing out after the quarter-final defeat by Portugal at UEFA EURO 2012.
"I always said if I returned home then it would be to Baník. I did not expect to return so soon but I am glad to be here and I hope I can drag us out of relegation trouble," he added, with Martin Pulpit's side down in 12th place in the 16-team Czech First League, two points outside the drop zone.
A UEFA Champions League winner with Liverpool FC in 2005, Baroš also represented Aston Villa FC and Olympique Lyonnais and finished top scorer at UEFA EURO 2004. He will donate his full salary to Baník Top Class, a local scheme that funds the development of youth football.
