Italian referee Nicola Rizzoli to officiate at Wembley
The UEFA Referees Committee today announced the referee for the 2013 UEFA Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern München, to be played at Wembley on Saturday 25 May at 19.45 local time (20.45CET).
The match will be refereed by 41-year-old Italian Nicola Rizzoli, who has been an international referee since 2007. He took charge of the 2010 UEFA Europa League final in Hamburg between Club Atlético de Madrid and Fulham FC (2-1 after extra time) and also officiated at three matches of UEFA EURO 2012.
Nicola Rizzoli has handled 26 UEFA Champions League matches to date, four of them during this season, including the round of 16 return leg between Málaga CF and FC Porto (2-0).
At the final in London, Nicola Rizzoli will be assisted by his fellow countrymen Renato Faverani and Andrea Stefani. The fourth official will be Damir Skomina from Slovenia and the two additional assistant referees, Gianluca Rocchi and Paolo Tagliavento are also from Italy. An Italian reserve assistant referee – Gianluca Cariolato – completes the line up of the refereeing team.
