Tomer Hemed scored midway through the first half as RCD Mallorca climbed off the foot of the Liga with a 1-0 win at home to Real Betis Balompié.
The Israeli striker pounced on 21 minutes, tapping in from close range after Adrián could only parry Victor Casadesus' low shot into his path. It was reward for a motivated, efficient start by the hosts against seventh-placed Betis, and Victor had chances to extend the advantage.
Hemed also wasted an opportunity just after the hour but Betis, chasing a UEFA Europa League berth, could not make Mallorca pay. Gregorio Manzano's side moved 19th, three points from safety with two games left to play.
