Liverpool FC have signed Belgium goalkeeper Simon Mignolet from Premier League rivals Sunderland AFC.

Although the Anfield club have not disclosed the size of the fee they have paid for the 25-year-old, reports suggest it to be around €10.6m. Liverpool say Mignolet, who moved to England in summer 2010 from home-town side K. Sint Truidense VV, has agreed a "long-term contract".

Mignolet made 101 appearances in all competitions for Sunderland. He will become the first Belgian to represent Liverpool and will provide competition for Pepe Reina, who has been the Reds' No1 since the beginning of the 2005/06 season.

"I am delighted that we have been able to sign one of the top goalkeepers in the Premier League," manager Brendan Rodgers told the Liverpool website. "Simon will join a club that will give him an opportunity to demonstrate and improve his huge talent."

Mignolet, capped 13 times by his country, is the third player to join Liverpool since Saturday following the arrival of strikers Luis Alberto (Sevilla FC) and Iago Aspas (RC Celta de Vigo).
