West Bromwich Albion FC have announced the signing of Nicolas Anelka. The 34-year-old, part of France's victorious UEFA EURO 2000 squad, has signed a 12-month deal, making the Baggies his sixth English team.
"We are missing a bit of firepower from last year and to kick off with the signing of Nicolas at the start of the summer is a great boost for everyone at the club," said manager Steve Clarke, who worked with Anelka at Chelsea FC. "The more quality players you can bring to the club the better, and no one can question Nicolas' quality.
"He's got a great work ethic, looks after himself and is a consummate professional. His experience with some of the top clubs in England and Europe will stand the group in good stead."
As well as a four-year spell at Stamford Bridge – where he was a UEFA Champions League runner-up in 2008 and a Premier League winner two years later – Anelka helped fire Arsenal FC to the title in 1998 and has also turned out for fellow English sides Liverpool FC, Manchester City FC and Bolton Wanderers FC.
Capped 69 times by Les Bleus, the former Paris Saint-Germain FC and Real Madrid CF player spent the second half of last term on loan at Juventus following his short stint in China with Shanghai Shenhua FC.
