Champions FK Vardar overcame cup holders FK Teteks 1-0 on Sunday to win the second edition of the Macedonian Super Cup.
Eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by FC Steaua Bucureşti earlier in the week, Vardar restored some pride at the National Arena Filip II Macedonian in Skopje. Second-half substitute Filip Petrov scored the only goal of the game on 53 minutes, and it could easily have been a bigger win for Blagoja Milevski's men, Petrov, Miroslav Jovanovski, Jovan Kostovski and Aco Stojkov all going close.
"We are starting the new season with the goal of winning the treble," said Vardar captain Kostovski. "Tonight we achieved our first target and I hope that by playing high-quality football we will manage to defend the title and also win the cup."
Vardar's title defence begins against promoted FK Makedonija GP Skopje on 4 August, while Teteks' challenge for the season is to win back a place in the top division after being relegated earlier this summer.
