Falcao scored on his debut as Ligue 1 returnees AS Monaco FC left it late to win 2-0 at FC Girondins de Bordeaux, while Olympique Lyonnais eased to a 4-0 victory against OGC Nice.

Claudio Ranieri's Monaco made the headlines with their summer transfer activity and it was one of their new recruits who rubber-stamped the outcome. Substitute Emmanuel Rivière beat goalkeeper Cédric Carrasso from an acute angle on 82 minutes before Falcao salted the wound of an unfortunate Bordeaux with a near-post effort late on.

Lyon, however, looked in fine fettle at home to Nice. Pacy forward Alexandre Lacazette produced two clinical strikes either side of Clement Grenier's excellent header. Yoann Gourcuff stole the show in added time, arcing a lovely shot into the top-right corner from long distance.

LOSC Lille also started with a win, 1-0 against FC Lorient. An unmarked Divock Origi registered the only goal early on, the 18-year-old producing a composed finish after Marvin Martin's long pass had deflected into his path.

The highlight elsewhere was Valenciennes FC's 3-0 defeat of Toulouse FC. The visitors lost Uros Spajić to a 35th-minute red card and were punished either side of the break by Maor Melikson's penalty and a José Saez strike. Grégory Pujol rounded off the scoring in added time.
