FC Nantes paid tribute to "a true football legend" following the death of their former coach Jean Vincent at the age of 82.
A forward in his playing days, Vincent began his career at LOSC Lille, where he won the Ligue 1 title in 1954 and the Coupe de France twice. He moved to Stade de Reims in 1956 and enjoyed even greater success, claiming a further three French championships including a domestic double in 1958.
Vincent also earned 46 caps for France, scoring 22 goals, and was part of the team that reached the FIFA World Cup semi-finals in 1958, losing to Brazil.
Vincent turned his hand to coaching in 1964 and experienced his finest moments during a revolutionary five-year spell at Nantes – steering the Canaries to their first French Cup in 1979 as well as two league crowns. He also led Cameroon to the 1982 World Cup before retiring five years later after a short stint with Tunisia. He then focused on his famous footballing schools in Saint-Brevin-les-Pins.
"A true football legend in Nantes and France passed away," said Nantes in a statement.
