André-Pierre Gignac was again on the scoresheet as Olympique de Marseille continued their fine early season form with a 1-0 victory at Valenciennes FC.
The striker has been impressively leading the line and his winner at Stade du Hainaut was his third goal in as many matches. While it was not the most difficult goal he will score this term – a simple rebound finish after André Ayew's header had been parried by the goalkeeper – it arrived with just six minutes left and ensured OM of their third straight success.
The result leaves Marseille as the only club with a 100% record after rivals Olympique Lyonnais surprisingly suffered a 1-0 defeat by Stade de Reims at a sodden Stade de Gerland. Odair Fortes grabbed the decisive goal with a little under a quarter of an hour remaining, punishing Clément Grenier's failure from the penalty spot a few minutes earlier.
Elsewhere, Mustapha Yatabaré scored both goals as promoted EA Guingamp secured their first three-point haul, 2-0 at home against FC Lorient, while loanee Nélson Oliveira also hit a double as Stade Rennais FC sank Évian Thonon Gaillard FC 2-1.
On Friday, Gignac's former club, Toulouse FC, frustrated big-spending AS Monaco FC by leaving Stade Louis II with a goalless draw.
