Slovan 'not the final stop' for returning Vittek

Slovakia's all-time leading goalscorer Róbert Vittek has returned to ŠK Slovan Bratislava, the club where his career began 14 years ago.

"I see this as a new start," said Vittek, 31, who has signed a one-year deal. "Since February I haven't played [due to injury] so it wasn't easy to find a new club." Scorer of four goals at the 2010 FIFA World Cup – and 23 in 80 internationals – Vittek has since struggled to replicate that form because of injury problems.

The forward has travelled far and wide since leaving Slovan in 2003/04, enjoying a long spell in Germany with 1. FC Nürnberg before stints in France and Turkey. He left his most recent employers İstanbul BB SK following their relegation from the Turkish Super League last season.

"There weren't suitable offers from foreign clubs, so I decided on Slovan. I hope I will be able to help the club domestically and with European qualification. But I also want to return to a league abroad. It will depend on my fitness, but I believe Slovan are not my final stop – I am not coming here to see out my career."
