AS Saint-Étienne overcame Valenciennes FC 3-1 to go top of Ligue 1, while early pacesetters Olympique de Marseille dropped points for the second game running.

On Friday, goals from Blaise Matuidi and Lucas helped Paris Saint-Germain FC to a 2-0 win at FC Girondins de Bordeaux which took the champions to the head of the standings. However, the capital club's time there was short-lived as St-Etienne made it four wins in five thanks to a Benjamin Corgnet double and Romain Hamouma's strike.

After defeat against AS Monaco FC last time out ended their three-game winning start, OM needed Lucas Mendes's 87th-minute header to cancel out Wissam Ben Yedder's opener for struggling Toulouse FC and rescue a 1-1 draw.

Kévin Berigaud scored two in Évian Thonon Gaillard FC's 3-2 victory at winless AC Ajaccio and FC Nantes earned their first win since the opening day, prevailing 1-0 against visitors FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
