Málaga CF and Real Betis Balompié both shrugged off their slow early-season form to earn their first Liga wins of the season in style.

Mounir El Hamdaoui was the man who did the damage for last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finalists Málaga as the ACF Fiorentina loanee struck a hat-trick for the hosts against Rayo Vallecano de Madrid. The Moroccan international opened the scoring on 31 minutes before Francisco Portillo doubled the advantage and Eliseu curled in a third. A further pair of efforts from El Hamdaoui then wrapped things up for Bernd Schuster's men.

Betis condemned Valencia CF to a third defeat in four outings as a first-half masterclass secured a 3-1 win. Jorge Molina's opener and two Salvador Sevilla goals inside the first 34 minutes left the visitors with too much to do, despite Ricardo Costa's consolation after the break.

Elsewhere, RCD Espanyol maintained their unbeaten start as Manuel Lanzarote scored the winner following an indirect free-kick in the Granada CF penalty area to seal a 1-0 win, while Getafe CF also got their first three points of the campaign as a pair of Miku goals helped them come from behind to defeat bottom-of-the-table CA Osasuna 2-1.
