Goran Pandev scored twice as SSC Napoli won 2-0 against Genoa CFC to go top of Serie A.
Rafael Benítez's side remain unbeaten in all competitions this season following victory against Genoa. Goran Pandev, who had not previously found the net for club or country since April, was the hero for the Partenopei, twice finishing clinically inside the opening 25 minutes. Napoli are a point clear of AS Roma, who will look to reclaim top spot with victory against Bologna FC on Sunday.
In the day's only other game, AC Milan won 1-0 against UC Sampdoria to move up to eighth in the standings. Valter Birsa scored the only goal – his first for the club – with a low finish from outside the penalty area just after half-time. Sampdoria stay third from bottom, with just two points from their opening six fixtures of the season.
