Spanish football is in mourning following the passing last Saturday of former Real Sociedad de Fútbol, Valencia CF and CA Osasuna goalkeeper Ignacio Eizaguirre Arregui, who was 92.

Son of another former La Real goalkeeper – Agustín Eizaguirre – Ignacio was born in San Sebastian on 7 November 1920 and featured for the Basque side between 1936 and 1941, and again between 1950 and 1956. Between his two spells at La Real, the keeper won three Liga titles and a Copa del Rey with Valencia before signing for Pamplona-based Osasuna.

Capped 18 times, Arregui formed part of the Spanish team that finished fourth at the 1950 FIFA World Cup in Brazil – Spain's best performance at a World Cup until 2010.
