A goal from 18-year-old Óliver Torres 14 seconds into his first Liga start set second-placed Club Atlético de Madrid on their way to a 5-0 home victory against lowly Real Betis Balompié.

The midfielder, tapping in at the far post, applied the finishing touch to a move which started when the Rojiblancos kicked off. Two goals in five second-half minutes from David Villa – one a header, the other a powerful shot – put the outcome beyond doubt.

Villa then turned provider for the fourth, scored by Diego Costa, and Gabi rounded things off in added time as the hosts returned to within a point of leaders FC Barcelona.

Villarreal CF, meanwhile, consolidated fourth spot with a 4-1 home win against local rivals Valencia CF. Giovani dos Santos scored twice after the break, his second a fine strike from outside the penalty area, and also had a penalty saved by Vicente Guaita moments before his first of the game.

Antoine Griezmann registered a double as Real Sociedad de Fútbol defeated winless UD Almería 3-0 and recorded back-to-back Liga victories for the first time since mid-April. As for Sevilla FC, now seven unbeaten in all competitions, they moved above Valencia into tenth thanks to a 2-1 triumph against visitors CA Osasuna.
