AS Monaco FC failed to return to the top of Ligue 1 after letting slip a two-goal lead in a 2-2 draw at struggling FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Seeking to move back ahead of Paris Saint-Germain FC on goal difference, Claudio Ranieri's side made a blistering start at the Stade Auguste-Bonal. Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco struck twice inside the opening ten minutes to put Monaco well on course for victory, but the hosts bounced back after the break.
Playing under the watchful gaze of new coach Hervé Renard for the first time, Sochaux reduced the deficit via Cédric Bakambu from a corner on 56 minutes, before Joseph Roméric Lopy headed the equaliser from another corner 13 minutes later.
Later in the evening, ten-man Olympique Lyonnais salvaged a 1-1 draw against FC Girondins de Bordeaux, for whom Ludovic Obraniak notched a 62nd-minute opener. Lyon were given another blow when Alexandre Lacazette was dismissed shortly afterwards, but they rescued a point through Jimmy Briand in added time.
Also on Sunday, AS Saint-Étienne climbed up to seventh by seeing off FC Lorient 3-2, Brandão, Benjamin Corgnet and Max Gradel all registering for the hosts.
