City end Everton's unbeaten run, Liverpool go top

Manchester City FC recorded a 3-1 comeback win against Everton FC to end their visitors' unbeaten start to the season, rivals Manchester United FC followed suit at Sunderland AFC, and Liverpool FC moved top of the league.

Despite Romelu Lukaku firing Everton into a 16th-minute lead after a brilliant solo run into the area, the Toffees slipped to their first defeat this term. Álvaro Negredo almost immediately wiped out the advantage, before Sergio Agüero's excellent tucked finish handed City the half-time lead. Manuel Pellegrini's men then made sure of victory from the spot, the ball ricocheting in off goalkeeper Tim Howard after Agüero's penalty had cannoned off the base of the upright.

The win took City two points behind Arsenal FC, who will look to reclaim their leadership of the division from Liverpool, who cruised to a 3-1 win against Crystal Palace FC. Brendan Rodgers' men did the damage in the first half via goals from Luis Suárez, Daniel Sturridge and a Steven Gerrard penalty.

In the day's late kick-off, Adnan Januzaj scored a double on his first Premier League start as Manchester United came from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1. Craig Gardener had given the Black Cats an early lead.
