LOSC Lille leapfrogged AS Monaco FC in to second spot in Ligue 1 after recording an eye-catching 2-0 triumph against their previously unbeaten rivals in northern France.

Claudio Ranieri's Monaco were looking to return level on points with leaders Paris Saint-Germain but fell behind with 27 minutes gone as Marko Baša applied a headed touch to a Florent Balmont corner and Nolan Roux buried the ball with his knee. The same player scored the home side's second as well, meeting Rio Mavuba's pass at the far post following a counterattack on 71 minutes.

The victory was LOSC's sixth in seven league fixtures and catapulted them a point above Monaco and two shy of Paris. Elsewhere, FC Girondins de Bordeaux took their unbeaten league run to seven games with a 2-1 success at the Stade de Nice to become the first side to take points off OGC Nice in their new home. Grégory Sertic and Ludovic Obraniak put the visitors two up, meaning that Dario Cvitanich's 77th-minute penalty proved a mere consolation.

As for fourth-placed FC Nantes, they were prevented from prevailing at Montpellier Hérault SC after Djamel Bakar's last-minute strike cancelled out Filip Djordjević's opener to leave it 1-1.
