Manchester City FC were the big movers in the Premier League on Sunday, climbing three places to third behind Chelsea FC after they and the London club recorded victories.
The Citizens made it seven top-flight wins out of seven at home this season with a 3-0 triumph over Swansea City AFC. Álvaro Negredo scored for the seventh successive game at the City of Manchester Stadium when he curled in a free-kick.
A double from Samir Nasri took City's tally of home league goals this term to 29 and ensured Manuel Pellegrini's team ended the weekend on the coat-tails of Chelsea and above Liverpool FC, who started the day immediately behind leaders Arsenal FC.
Liverpool had earlier succumbed 3-1 at Hull City AFC. Steve Bruce's side scored twice without reply in the second period through David Meyler and a Martin Škrtel own goal, Steven Gerrard having cancelled out Jake Livermore's deflected opener with a free-kick.
Chelsea, meanwhile, recovered from the shock of conceding inside 13 seconds to defeat Southampton FC 3-1, defenders Gary Cahill and – on his 400th Premier League appearance – John Terry overturning Jay Rodriguez's opportunistic strike before Demba Ba rubber-stamped victory.
The Blues are four points shy of Arsenal and five ahead of Manchester United FC, for whom Wayne Rooney was on target twice in a 2-2 draw at Tottenham Hotspur FC.
