Valencia CF had Jonas sent off as they were held to a goalless draw at Gimnàstic de Tarragona in the first leg of the their Copa del Rey round of 32 tie, while RCD Espanyol needed a late goal to draw at Real Jaén CF.
UEFA Europa League contenders Valencia failed to break down their third-tier opponents and had Jonas dismissed close to the end to cap a frustrating afternoon. As for Espanyol, they had Christian Stuani's 88th-minute goal to thank for salvaging a 2-2 stalemate at Real Jaén.
CA Osasuna came from three goals down to earn a 3-3 draw at Málaga CF in the only all-Liga tie of the day. Roberto Torres and Manuel Omwu made it 3-2, but the fightback looked to be over when Raoul Loé was sent off. However, Emiliano Armenteros levelled the scores in the 78th minute.
UD Almería put their league troubles to one side as they ran out 3-1 winners at UD Las Palmas, although both sides were reduced to ten men in the second half. Elsewhere, Odion Ighalo scored in each half to secure Granada CF a 2-0 victory at AD Alcorcon that puts them in control of the tie.
