FC Rostov midfielder Alexandru Gațcan has been named Moldovan player of the year.
In a poll conducted by the Football Association of Moldova (FMF), Russian Premier League-based Gațcan was awarded the accolade ahead of Alexandru Epureanu and Artur Ioniţă. The 29-year-old, who started his career at FC Unisport-Auto, had subsequent spells with FC Spartak Moskva reserves, FC Spartak Chelyabinsk and FC Rubin Kazan before joining Rostov in 2008. He has scored one goal in 33 appearances for Moldova.
Ion Caras, the man in charge of the national team, won the coach of the year award. Nicolae Calancea of FC Zimbru Chisinau landed the goalkeeper of the year prize, FC Sheriff's Miral Samardžić was named defender of the year, Zimbru's Alexandru Dedov was voted best midfielder, and Sheriff forward Luvannor Henrique claimed the honour of best striker of 2013.
