Arsenal back at summit as City climb into second

Arsenal FC returned to the top of the Premier League with their first win in four matches, while Manchester City FC recorded their ninth home win in as many league matches this season at the expense of previous leaders Liverpool FC.

Arsène Wenger's team had not won in the league since 4 December and fell behind at West Ham United FC to Carlton Cole's effort in the first minute of the second half. Two goals in quick succession from Theo Walcott (68, 71) turned the match on its head, however, Lukas Podolski wrapping up the win with a clinching third.

City also fell behind as Coutinho gave Liverpool a 24th-minute advantage in Manchester, but Vincent Kompany levelled seven minutes later and Álvaro Negredo scored what proved to be the decisive goal at the end of the first half. There was also a memorable comeback in the day's early game, Manchester United FC trailing 2-0 within 13 minutes at Hull City AFC, but goals from Chris Smalling and Wayne Rooney brought David Moyes' side level by the 26th minute and James Chester's second-half own goal completed a fine win.

Chelsea FC climbed to third, Eden Hazard scoring the only goal at home to Swansea City AFC, while Newcastle United FC dismantled nine-man Stoke City FC 5-1. At the bottom there were away wins for Sunderland AFC, Fulham FC and Crystal Palace FC, while Tottenham Hotspur FC were held 1-1 at home by West Bromwich Albion FC.
