Manchester City FC went top of the Premier League after a narrow 1-0 victory against Crystal Palace FC, on a day when Manchester United FC also eked out three points.

City may have gone into Saturday's contest with a perfect home league record this season, but goalkeeper Joe Hart needed to be on form to keep out Jason Puncheon, while Marouane Chamakh also headed wide for the 17th-placed visitors. However, Edin Džeko rifled Jesús Navas's cutback into the roof of the net on 66 minutes to send City two points clear of Arsenal FC at the top. The Gunners travel to Newcastle United FC on Sunday.

United survived a scare of their own at Norwich City FC. The hosts piled on the first-half pressure in their bid to end David Moyes's side's five-game winning run in all competitions. However, Danny Welbeck's half-time introduction proved a turning point, the England forward rounding John Ruddy to slide in the winner 12 minutes after his introduction to move United into sixth.

Hull City AFC were the big winners of the day, Robert Koren scoring twice in a 6-0 win against Fulham FC, while late goals from Steven Fletcher and Jack Colback earned Sunderland AFC a 2-2 draw at Cardiff City AFC. West Bromwich Albion FC and West Ham United FC drew 3-3 and Swansea City AFC were held 1-1 at Aston Villa FC.
