Five-star Paris too strong for Nantes

Paris Saint-Germain gave another searing indication of their potency this term by sweeping aside FC Nantes 5-0 to stay five points ahead of second-placed AS Monaco FC, who triumphed 2-0 at Toulouse FC.

Nantes travelled to the French capital hoping to climb ahead of Olympique de Marseille into fifth spot, but they fell behind on ten minutes when Thiago Silva registered following a corner. Zlatan Ibrahimović then put the hosts 2-0 up from the penalty spot and the Sweden captain also turned in Paris's fifth goal, after Thiago Motta had struck on 51 minutes and Edinson Cavani had finished into an empty net seven minutes later.

That proved the perfect response to Monaco's victory earlier in the day, Layvin Kurzawa putting the visitors ahead in the 36th minute when he converted a Geoffrey Kondogbia cross. The game was killed off with two minutes to go as Lucas Ocampos unleashed a spectacular acrobatic volley to ensure a first league win in three Ligue 1 outings for Claudio Ranieri's men.

Meanwhile, Olympique Lyonnais rose to eighth via a 2-0 win at Stade de Reims. Henri Bedimo hit the woodwork for the visitors with 17 minutes gone, but they did not have to wait long to take the lead as Alexandre Lacazette fired a Bedimo cross past Kossi Agassa. Gueïda Fofana's curling effort sealed the points in the 84th minute.
