Sergio Agüero scored a hat-trick as Manchester City FC came from 2-0 down to win 4-2 and deny Watford FC a famous victory in the FA Cup fourth round.

Giuseppe Sannino's Hornets were just half an hour from becoming only the second side – after FC Bayern München – to beat City at home this season, following Fernando Forestieri's low drive and Troy Deeney's neat finish. However, few have been able to tame City's ferocious attack, and Manuel Pellegrini's side scored four goals in 30 minutes to book their place in the fifth round.

Agüero pounced on a rebound to reduce the deficit on the hour and equalised in the 79th minute. Aleksandar Kolarov's effort from distance completed the turnaround with three minutes remaining before Agüero secured his treble and salted Watford wounds in the last seconds.

Meanwhile, two Lukas Podolski strikes and further goals from Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla helped Arsenal FC make light work of third-flight Coventry City FC on Friday evening, while Liverpool FC were 2-0 winners at AFC Bournemouth.

James McClean scored the winning goal as Championship outfit Wigan Athletic FC produced a slight upset, prevailing 2-1 against top-flight strugglers Crystal Palace FC, while Everton FC, Hull City AFC, Cardiff City FC, Southampton FC, Sunderland AFC and Swansea City FC all progressed.
