Chelsea FC moved to the top of the Premier League with a 2-0 victory at Hull City AFC.
José Mourinho's team started the day in third, a point shy of Manchester City FC and two adrift of long-time pacesetters Arsenal FC. However, Chelsea took full advantage of City and the Gunners not playing until Sunday and Monday respectively, securing a comfortable win in the north east thanks to low second-half finishes from Eden Hazard and Fernando Torres.
Now just three points behind City in fourth are Everton FC, who announced the signing of Republic of Ireland winger Aiden McGeady prior to a 2-0 home win against Norwich City FC. Gareth Barry and Kevin Mirallas did the damage for the Toffees with splendid strikes. A further point off the pace are Tottenham Hotspur FC, 2-0 victors against Crystal Palace courtesy of Christian Eriksen and Jermain Defoe. Manchester United FC stay seventh following a 2-0 success against Swansea City AFC.
Defeat at White Hart Lane leaves Palace bottom of the standings after previous incumbents Sunderland AFC prevailed 4-1 at Fulham FC, Adam Johnson scoring his first professional hat-trick. Alongside Palace and Sunderland in the bottom three are Cardiff City FC, who lost 2-0 at home to 17th-placed West Ham United FC – the Hammers' first league win since November. Southampton FC, meanwhile, won 1-0 against West Bromwich Albion FC.
