Genoa's Calaio comes back to haunt Napoli

Third-placed SSC Napoli succumbed to a late goal as they were held 1-1 at home to Genoa CFC, after ACF Fiorentina twice came from behind to salvage a point against Parma FC.

The contest in Naples started positively for Rafael Benítez's side, who went in front after 18 minutes courtesy of Gonzalo Higuaín. Receiving Marek Hamšík's defence-splitting pass, the Argentina striker delightfully lifted the ball over the onrushing Mattia Perin. There would be a late twist in the tale, however, as Emanuele Calaio – on loan from Napoli – found the net with a sublime free-kick on 84 minutes.

In the early kick-off, Antonio Cassano and Amauri struck either side of Juan Cuadrado's first-half equaliser to put Parma within sight of their sixth win in seven Serie A outings. A second yellow card for Modibo Diakité looked to have sealed Fiorentina's fate, but Matías Fernández restored parity with five minutes left. Borja Valero became the second Viola player to see red right on time, with Parma's Gianni Munari suffering the same fate. The result keeps Vincenzo Montella's men six points behind Napoli in fourth.
