Chelsea FC spurned the chance to move four points clear atop the Premier League after drawing 1-1 at West Bromwich Albion FC, on an evening when Southampton FC and West Ham United FC prevailed.

José Mourinho's visitors were slow to examine whether the Baggies still bore the defensive scars from their 3-1 defeat by Crystal Palace FC on Saturday. That was until Branislav Ivanović fired in at the back post after David Luiz had flicked Willian's corner into the full-back's path.

West Brom keeper Ben Foster repelled a fierce Willian effort in a frantic second period, before Chris Brunt fired wide at the other end when well-placed. However, just as Chelsea thought they had weathered the storm, Victor Anichebe levelled with three minutes remaining.

Elsewhere, Southampton stretched their unbeaten Premier League sequence to six outings by edging Hull City AFC 1-0 courtesy of José Fonte, who kept his composure from close range on 69 minutes. As for West Ham, they prevailed 2-0 against Norwich City FC to climb to tenth, while the game between relegation-threatened Cardiff City AFC and Aston Villa FC finished goalless.
