Paris juggernaut rumbles on with Lorient win

Paris Saint-Germain ended Friday 11 points clear at the Ligue 1 summit after a narrow victory over FC Lorient, an eighth successive win for Laurent Blanc's side.

Paris Saint-Germain go into the weekend 11 points clear at the Ligue 1 summit after a narrow victory over FC Lorient.

Thiago Motta struck the only goal four minutes before half-time, converting from close range after a fine piece of skill from Zlatan Ibrahimović. It was enough to seal an eighth successive win in all competitions for Laurent Blanc's side, though it did not go all the visitors' way in Brittany as Jérémie Aliadière and Vincent Aboubakar asked plenty of their defence. Despite the early withdrawal of Thiago Silva with a knock – "nothing very serious," says Blanc – Paris held on.

The result leaves the French champions 11 points clear with eight games remaining. Second and third, each with one match in hand, meet on Sunday when AS Monaco FC host LOSC Lille.
