Bayer 04 Leverkusen's hopes of clinching a top-three finish in the Bundesliga suffered another blow as they lost 3-2 at home to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
With both FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund winning on Saturday, Sami Hyypiä's men lie six points off third spot after failing to win for the seventh league game in succession. They were behind on 14 minutes when Sejad Salihović scored from the penalty spot following Roberto Hilbert's handball, but Stefan Kiessling headed the hosts back level on 39 minutes.
Less than a minute later, Hoffenheim were ahead again thanks to Kevin Volland's effort from outside the area. Captain Simon Rolfes's close-range equaliser looked to have earned the Werkself a point, but Anthony Modeste struck a minute from time to ensure that Leverkusen's miserable run continues.
Meanwhile, Eintracht Frankfurt eased their relegation worries with a 5-2 success at ten-man 1. FC Nürnberg, leaving Gertjan Verbeek's men second bottom. Stefan Aigner laid on for Tranquillo Barnetta to tap in the opener for Eintracht before Joselu swept in a second four minutes after the interval.
Alexander Madlung made it three from close range, but efforts from Josip Drmic and José Campaña brought the deficit back down to one goal. Javier Pinola then saw red for the hosts with ten minutes to go, allowing Eintracht to make the game safe courtesy of Joselu and Václav Kadlec.
