Real Sociedad de Fútbol ousted Villarreal CF from Spain's final UEFA Europa League spot, moving into sixth with a last-gasp 2-1 home win against RCD Espanyol.
The possibility of Jagoba Arrasate's men rising into the European places seemed distant when Jhon Córdoba moved through the centre and drove low past Claudio Bravo in the 23rd minute. That advantage lasted just nine minutes, however, as Sergio Canales's inswinging cross from right was misjudged by visiting keeper Francisco Casilla and snuck inside the near post. La Real left it late to secure all three points, but Carlos Vela got the winner in the 91st minute, converting from Markel Bergara's assist.
Valencia CF are back in eighth after Jonas's deflected 82nd-minute effort earned the UEFA Europa League semi-finalists a 1-1 draw at CA Osasuna. The home side had gone ahead after Valencia keeper Vicente Guaita spilled an effort into the path of Oriol Riera, allowing the No19 the simplest of finishes.
Meanwhile, Getafe CF remain in the relegation zone after a goalless draw with mid-table Levante UD. The former had Alexis sent off nine minutes from time following his second bookable offence.
