Ligue 1 title within touching distance for Paris

Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of retaining the Ligue 1 title after a 1-0 home victory against ten-man Évian Thonon Gaillard FC.

Laurent Blanc's side were heading for a frustrating draw against the team who in December ended their 36-match unbeaten run in all competitions when substitute Blaise Matuidi, running on to Lucas's reverse pass, stabbed the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Jesper Hansen with one minute remaining.

Their fifth-bottom opponents, hitherto four games undefeated, had played with ten men since the dismissal of defender Kassim Abdallah just after the hour.

Paris, playing their game in hand after winning the French League Cup at the weekend, are ten points clear of second-placed AS Monaco FC with four fixtures left and will wrap up the championship on Sunday if they defeat FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.

Elsewhere, Olympique Lyonnais drew 0-0 at mid-table Toulouse FC and remain fifth, nine points adrift of the third UEFA Champions League place, occupied by LOSC Lille.
