Veh to rekindle old flame at Stuttgart

Armin Veh has returned to VfB Stuttgart, the club he led to a surprise German title in 2006/07, following the resignation of his predecessor Huub Stevens at the weekend.

The 53-year-old Veh had been in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt for the past three seasons, taking them to the UEFA Europa League round of 32 this term having steered his charges to promotion during his first campaign, 2011/12. However, he announced in March that he would be leaving Frankfurt, who finished 13th in the Bundesliga, at the end of the season.

"I have stressed again and again lately that there is only one challenge that excites me after the great time I had at Frankfurt," explained Veh, who will have a two-year contract. "That was and is VfB Stuttgart, a club I have a special relationship with. We have had very good talks and I am very motivated to build something here at Stuttgart. VfB have huge potential and I am convinced that together we can take the club forward."

"We are very happy to have won Armin Veh over," added Stuttgart general manager Fredi Bobic. "He is fond of the idea of working together. Armin is an absolute expert – he brings with him lots of experience, knows the club and fits well with VfB. We will now use the summer break to plan for the new season." Veh previously coached Stuttgart from 2006–08. His new side came 15th in the table, one place above the relegation zone.
