Having steered UD Almería to Spanish top-flight safety on the last day of the Liga season, coach Francisco has been rewarded with a new one-year contract.

An Almeria native and former striker for the southern side – for whom he scored 45 goals in 152 league games – Francisco was transferred from the club's B team to take the charge of the newly promoted Rojiblancos last summer. Charged with maintaining his side's Liga status, the division's youngest coach at 35 managed the feat, a scoreless home draw with Athletic Club on 18 May securing Almería a 17th-place finish.

Francisco said: "We are safe because we have always remained realistic. Almost every team in the division was better than us in terms of quality, but staying humble brought us the prize that this team deserves. It is a joy to know we will be in the Liga next season."
